Waldorf-inspired home education for South Africa
The screen belongs to the parent. The child gets the world.
Selemo is a quiet companion for parents who teach at home. It shapes your family's rhythm around the southern year, prepares you for tomorrow's lesson in a few calm minutes each evening, and keeps the record your provincial department asks for. Your child never logs in, taps or watches.

The Quality of Numbers
Evening Prep, a real day from Grade 1
Two is the pair
- Choose a short route in the garden or a park for the number hunt.5 minutes
- Draw the baobab and the river with two banks on scrap paper so you know the shapes.10 minutes
Tomorrow is ready. Rest well.
How a day goes
Selemo does its work while your child is asleep or outside. In the day it waits in your pocket, face down.
In the evening
A short sitting with tomorrow. Selemo lays out the story to learn, the verse, the materials, and the one drawing worth trying yourself first. Then the phone goes down.
In the morning
You tell the story; you do not read it. The main lesson moves between quiet and lively parts: a verse, rhythmic work, yesterday remembered, the main lesson book, the new story and a calm close.
Out of doors
Activities chosen for your biome, the season and the day's weather, with the safety rules applied first: UV, heat, storms, water and the snakes and ticks of the warm months.
Afterwards
One sentence is enough. Your notes and photos of the main lesson book become the evidence, and progress grows from them without anyone testing your child.
Made for the southern year
Most Waldorf-inspired curricula are written for the north, where the lantern walk falls in November and harvest comes in September. Here the lanterns belong to June. Selemo computes the solstices, equinoxes, moon and daylight for where you live, and takes its first signs from your biome: the first storms on the Highveld, the winter rain in the Cape, the coral trees flowering on the coast.
- Autumn equinoxSaturday 20 March 2027
- Midwinter, the shortest dayMonday 21 June 2027
- Spring equinoxThursday 23 September 2027
- Midsummer, the longest dayWednesday 22 December 2027
Your city through the year
Curriculum by age
From the first verses at three to the measuring and building of Grade 3. Each block is written in Selemo's own words by its curriculum team, and goes to a trained author and a reviewer before families use it.
Seedling
The early years at home, from about three to six. A gentle daily rhythm of circle time, free play, practical work, painting, baking, stories and time outside, with a theme for each week of the term.
1 block in the library
Grade 1
The first year of main lessons. Letters arrive from stories and pictures, numbers are met as qualities before quantities, and form drawing trains the hand and eye for writing.
3 blocks in the library
Grade 2
The year of fables and clever animals, reading what the children have written themselves, and the four operations practised with rhythm and movement.
1 block in the library
Grade 3
The year of practical life and building. Measuring with the body and with rulers, shelter and farming, and writing that carries real information.

Compliance without anxiety
Under the BELA Act, a child taught at home is registered with the provincial department of education, phase by phase, with an Education Plan and an assessment at the end of each phase. Selemo builds the plan from your own record, compares it honestly with CAPS, counts the 60 days with you after you apply, and gathers the assessor pack for the end of Grade 3.
What Selemo will never do
- Give your child an account, a login or a screen of their own.
- Count streaks, award points or hand out badges.
- Show a feed, likes or public profiles.
- Sell advertising, or sell anything about your family.
- Send you more than three kinds of notification, each one off until you turn it on.
Two plans, one promise

Why the screen belongs to the parent
Selemo is software that hopes your child never sees it. Why we drew that line, what it means in practice, and what we measure instead of time in the app.
A Waldorf-inspired rhythm at home in South Africa
How a day, a week and a year can breathe in a South African home: in-breath and out-breath, the southern festivals, Highveld storms and Cape winter rain.
What registering for home education under BELA involves
A plain walk through registration for home education under the BELA Act: the phases, the Education Plan, the documents, the 60-day clock and the end-of-phase assessment.
Begin with one block
Set up your family's rhythm in an evening. If it does not suit your home, everything you wrote is yours to export.
